As usual, there are the cute and fun elements as we know them from every Disney picture, and the robots were quite likeable and funny. But, overall, what a grim message was underlying the entire time... I felt very saddened by many parts to this movie. While I would completely support the idea of raising awareness of environmental issues with our children, I am not sure that this was entirely the way to go. Life on the space ship was also pushed a bit far... This was almost like an outer space version of "brave new world" in quite a lot of aspects. Everything controlled by auto-pilots? No one with an opinion of their own, just literally "drinking the kool-aid"? Not really what I expected from a Disney production...
I was a bit shocked to find a movie about a super-hero advertised as PG 13 with this level of explicit and graphic violence. While the effects were great, and there was a definite level of entertainment, I felt that parts - specifically the scenes in Afghanistan - were a bit much, especially for young viewers. Looking around the theater, you could see some youngsters trying to act all tough and grown up but you could see the expression of fear and shock on their faces. I would absolutely recommend this movie to adults who enjoy lots of action and great effects, and a decent story line. In the end, integrity wins.
