First, "Coraline" is a masterfully piece of stop-motion animation. It is wonderfully imagined and executed.
I'm a big fan of the author, Neil Gaiman and the book as well and had been looking forward to the movie. We made sure to see the 3D version. But for some reason, the movie left me cold. I just could not find a way to connect. It's a shame, really, but I think it's worth seeing and examining for just this point. It makes you wonder at what magic movies are and how difficult it must be to find that spark that takes them from the craft to the true dream-like state that makes them real and wonderful.
This is how a comic book hero should be translated to a movie. It was high energy, smart, funny, and pulled no punches with the action. I'm ready to see it again!
