The first iron man delivered a kind of magic that was fun and loving that i loved seeing in superhero movies. Now its sequel delivers something totally new to the superhero film genre. Rather then take the standard approach to the hero having a secret identity and more organized lifestyle, tony stark takes on the course all the other super heros shun or fear. The whole world knows that he and Iron Man are one and the same. SO the chaos that follows should not only be NOT looked at as flaw of the movie but as something necessary for the plot it self. If you were a super hero and the whole world knew about it, would expect your life to be about the same orginized life that other superheros tend to have? The answer is a big fat obvious NO, the whole world is going to come down on you. That's exactly what happens to Tony Stark in this movie. The whole world comes down on his head and he not only has to deal with everyday hassles including an issue with his suite that is gradually killing him but also how he must maintain both his image as tony stark and iron man (very wisely using elements from the Demon In The Bottle story arc from the comics about Stark battling alcholism). Because now its not just if one personality does something it only affects that personality, now if Tony Stark does something bad, it reflects not just him but also Iron Man as well. While at the same time he has to take on everyone in the world that has a problem with his new way of life. Outstanding character portrayals especially for Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Gwenth Paltrow, and series newcomers, Scarlett Johanson, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell, and the man who had a big job ahead of him, Don Cheadle as James Rhodes aka WAR MACHINE. Rourke and Rockwell provided excellent villians for Stark. Rourke was out for revenge not just against Tony Stark but also his entire legacy, and Rockwell was a man trying to just simply out do Tony Stark in every way he can. Did i mention how fun the movie was with the easter eggs towards the Avengers movie are? if there was one drawback about this movie it was the only mistake that followed over from the first film and that was the lack of a more climactic battle at the end. Yes it was better then the first in that there were less words exchanged and more blows BUT there was still more they could have done with it. Over all though it is still an even better movie then the first and i wish i could shake the hands of everyone involved with it for a job well done!
to me this one very unique take on the James Bond character. we've seen james numerous times doing things just because they were MI6 missions but never has the whole movie about Bond on a vengence rampage. it got really fast paced at first but it slows down enough to where you know the who what where and why's. even though there was normally a constant amount of action, it was still pretty damn good action. It also might have taken a break from some of the most common of the bond lines, the filmakers were good enough to throw in other tidbits such as nods and references to other bond flicks, such as a beautifully made Quantum version of a classic Goldfinger moment.
