Really funny spoof played perfectly by veteran actors who know their craft. As an actioner, well done. Just don't expect Mission Impossible. I don't understand the lukewarm reviews - this was a really funny movie. They even explained the McGuffin!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

I would have given it a 5 but have to say it's not quite as good as Happy Feet or Monsters, Inc. But it's a terrific story with practical insight - a rising tide lifts all boats, but not without loyalty, tough decisions, and lots and lots of hard work. Made great use of AMC 3D IMAX.
Expecting great things from Disney my adult friend and I were disappointed. First, we were handed these filthy 3-D glasses that didn't fit over regular prescription glasses, the 3-D itself (in an AMC) was laughable with the background morphing into the foreground, the projection light was too low so everything was dark, the sound was so soft I had to run out and tell one of the staff to turn it up, feel-good story lines were abruptly injected into the story. This film was an amateur mess not in the least comparable in story or style to what we have come to expect from Disney, nor was it up to the quality of the 3-D films put out by Dreamworks.
Compelling and entertaining story about what it means to be human, facing life's challenges, love, loss, and moving on. The packed suburban audience of kids and adults laughed and cried with the characters. Saw it in 3D DLP in a new AMC. Compared to IMAX 3D I'd say this rendition didn’t have the same depth, was less dramatic. My main complaint, however, is that the screen didn't get enough lumens, not enough to make the balloons and bird really pop and wow. For my ratings, 3 is "very good within the genre." To its own detriment PIXAR has set the standard so high that a very good PIXAR is still state of the art animation and story. I rate 50% on story, and 50% on looks. No one would be disappointed in either category.
I thoroughly enjoyed my night out with Gwyn and Iron Man. The 7 and 8 o'clock screenings were sold out at Rosedale but luckily I'd bought my 7 pm tkt online -- and with my AMC Watchers card, got a free popcorn and drink! As an origins action flick it was quite satisfying, more so than the Batman equivalent. The CGI was way cool and both Gwyneth and Robert were perfect in their roles. Terrence Howard and Jeff Bridges also held their own with credible performances. But I wish they'd shot using an anamorphic lens instead of what looked like mostly standard format with lots of flat looking close ups which felt a little claustrophobic. They needed to open it up, especially in Afghanistan. Same for inside Downey's lab and the almost-love-scene on the high rise balcony.
