I've never read any of the books, so as a movie, I thought it was pretty good. A little odd at the start, since I didn't know the story and I wasn't sure what exactly was going on with all the wordless interactions, but I caught on and found the story to be pretty interesting.
In the end, though, it comes off as a bit of a chick flick; there's not much here to hold the attention of someone who wants a real vampire story or an action movie. But as was stated before, this is from the perspective of someone who's never read the books and is reviewing the movie as just a movie.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
