An enjoyable piece of fluff for the faithful. Spock says "Fascinating" (about a chair); McCoy says, "D**n it Jim I'm a doctor not a physicist!"; Scotty says, "Captain, A'm doin' the best A can!"
Actors all look enough like originals, except Uhura, Sulu, and Checkov. Checkov played by an actual Russian, but overdoes the "Wery wisible" nonsense None of the acting really bad; Pine does an amusing Shatner Simon Pegg hilarious as usual.
Plot almost unimportant in this "alternative origins" set-up for the sequels. Script bad as every other ST script, though mercifully free from some of the Roddenberry goodness and light.
Effects all pretty good. Design right out of 1968. Closing titles annoying.
Some good fight scenes, some laughs, but mainly a hokey, cliched story of the white kid who saves the world by learning Eastern Wisdom, then beats up the bad guys back home. Save your money.
