The entire time I was watching this movie (with my 11yo daughter) I kept reminding myself that this is based on a true story. Once you can wrap your brain around the fact that this amazing athelete endured such a horrific upbringing you can appreciate the beauty of what the Tuohy's did for him. The shots and pictures at the end of the film showing the real Michael Oher and his family had everyone still in their seats even though the credits were rolling.
As a child of the 80's, I absolutely loved the music in this movie. I even brought my 10 yo daughter, who had heard Dancing Queen maybe twice in her life- and even she LOVED it! Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Pierce Brosnan were finally not typecast and proved they had some chops (a little struggle for Pierce though...) At times it did feel a little cheesy, but then I remembered I was watching a MUSICAL, not a full-fledged movie and that is what you get! I loved every second of it and cannot wait to see it again and buy it when it hits the stores.
