If you want to see an opera up close and personal, and also be taken for a backstage tour of how the sets are put together, don't miss these Met operas. There's one more this season, La Fille du Regiment. The one I saw was La Boheme, perhaps the best loved of all operas. The singers were all great. Ramon Vargas, the fine Mexican tenor, had the lead role of a young man whose jealousy and the fatal illness of his beloved leads to tragedy. If you've never seen an opera, this is the place to start. Beautiful, accessible music, and a timeless romantic story.
