YAWN. That's what I did; in fact, I took a nice long nap until my husband bumped me to stop my snores.
I guess I'm not that interested in the mechanics of the political electoral system, but I just found the entire movie boring, boring, boring. I slept through at least 40 minutes of this movie, and upon awakening, was able to put together the what-happened, and who's-paying-for-it scenario.
My suggestion? Wait for it to come out as a rental. Maybe it's worth that price, but definitely not worth the cost of a movie ticket these days.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

"I saw this movie once with a friend. My husband convinced me to go last night so he could see it. It's amazing to think that such a lifestyle existed only 50 years ago. The acting in this movie is superb; Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer really carry this movie. My friend, who is African-American, complained that the movie was really about the white women. In actuality, the movie is REALLY about Skeeter, the young woman trying to find her feet in a writing career. She is a free thinker, that's for sure, down there in the deep South in the 60's. The spiteful bigotry and racism - the movie put across the emotionalism and anger it generated without using forcefulness and violence, something that is generally at the core of racism. This is a great movie, and I'll just bet that we'll see one or two of these actors on the stage at the Academy Awards."
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The Dogs Show Their Teeth

Southern Red Neck. White Trash. Men with too much time on their hands; too little to do. Unfortunately this is too common today. And while this is certainly an EXTREME example, things can and do go wrong. Some of this movie just did not make sense. The coach's daughter titallating the mentally disabled man, to prove - what? Kate Bosworth, slowly unbuttoning her blouse while standing at a window of her house with 4 dysfunctional men working on the roof of her barn - what did she expect?! Her other scantily clad scenes were actually discussed with her "husband". I got a huge kick out of the bear trap, just wondering and waiting when that evil thing would come into play in the climax of the movie.
I went to this movie knowing it was trashy, knowing it was violent, and I went anyway. If you ever lived in the South, you know that some of that mentality exists....although actually, it exists everywhere. Maybe the ending was a bit extreme, but that type of person is out there.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Health Hazards Ahead!

Well, if you ever needed encouraging to wash your hands frequently, or avoid human contact whenever possible, go see this movie. You will become paranoid. After I walked out, I watched everywhere people put their hands. Scary.
The movie was well acted. It was also a bit overwrought at points, and maybe it's wishful thinking to hope that humankind would react more reasonably to such an outbreak....hopefully we will never have to find out! The SARS epidemic was the closest we've ever had to this, and that was plenty scary.
I think it's best if one goes to see this movie for entertainment value, not expecting it to be scientifically accurate. We hope, at least, it's not scientifically accurate.
Go see for yourself.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Old marriages are sort of like those beat up tennis shoes that Steve Carell's character wears at the beginning of this movie. Comfortable, boring, perhaps a bit too staid. I know. I'm in one. As soon as I saw those shoes, I thought of the guy sitting next to me! (hubby of 39 years!). But oh, my. My life does not imitate art. This movie had such cute dips and turns; there was everything from the adolescent crush on the young and the adolescent crush on the "old". I never know whether I should drag my other half to a movie that could be labeled a chick flick, but there were no regrets here. Enjoyed by both of us! Too many twists and turns to mention here; suffice it to say one is never bored! I found it mildly amusing that Kevin Bacon is in this movie, where all the relationships seem intertwined in some way. Six degrees of separation, heh?!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Summertime. Movie choices are limited for we "older folk". Kids movies abound, and lots of action flicks. So, along comes "Larry Crowne" and with it, bad reviews. We nearly didn't go see this, due to the reviews. But due to process of elimination, this finally became our choice. And - we were so glad we saw this movie! Tom Hanks has that cozy, middle-aged nice guy role down pat, and was just enjoyable to watch. Julia Roberts is not my favorite actress, and her role was a little more subdued than usual, so she didn't seem to dominate the movie, as she usually does. I loved watching this fellow make the most of a bad situation, be willing to try to improve himself because life dealt him lemons.
So, to all you moviegoers who may be reticent about seeing this due to the bad reviews, go and be a critic yourself. You'll be glad you did.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

We walked in with great expectations. If you saw the first movie, you saw this movie. A baby in the first movie, a monkey in the second movie. A friend is lost in the first movie, a future brother-in-law is missing in this one. Same jokes, different location. Save this for video.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

The Dark Side of the Law

This was a very entertaining movie. So many things about the law are confusing and counter-intuative; it was really fascinating to watch this scumbag lawyer come to turns with his conscience and through clever maneuvers bring justice down on his diabolical client. We were just late enough to the movie that we had to sit in the front, which usually results in our getting our money back to see the movie another time. However, we decided to "tough it out" and sit down. Once the movie started, we were riveted to the story and forgot all about neck strain. The acting is excellent; Matthew McConaughey and Marisa Tomei really play well off each other, and as usual, William H. Macy just disappears into his role. Well worth the costly price of a movie ticket!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

One for All!

Intrigue. Politics. Love. Science Fiction?! Yes. All those rolled into one delightful movie. How lucky can we moviegoers be? As I watched this movie, I couldn't help but think of one four-letter word: fate. We all have it happen to us, but never think of it. Say, I drop toothpaste on my shirt. I have to change! And I'm 2 minutes later leaving to go to work. Every car I drive by, every light I stop at, is different because of that simple spill. And to think that there are some "angels" somewhere that caused that spill to happen! That's the premise of this movie, really, with some science fiction thrown in for fun. Matt and Emily should definitely star in a movie again; they had great chemistry and seemed to really enjoy each other. Even if it is acting! This movie is a real winner!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Let's Twist (plot)

I had read really mixed reviews about this movie, but it seemed like a "guy" movie. I figured my husband would like this better than "Just Go With It". So, after a long day of boring work, we had a little dinner and took ourselves to the movie theater.
What a delight! This movie kept us involved from beginning to end. Yes, some of it is highly improbable. No passport but a seemingly endless supply of money. He can drive effortlessly in a busy city like Berlin, where he's never been before? Ah, but we had no idea of who Martin Harris REALLY is, and the twist at the end puts every clue into perspective. This is the kind of movie I would see twice, just because all of those clues would make so much sense.
I thought it was good value for the money and the time we spent watching it. As I said, I could do it again! So, go, and be entertained! You'll be glad you did.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
