I was very excited to see this movie.
I am a fan of Super Heroes and Ryan Reynolds .. win win?
Eh ... not really...
Ryan Reynolds's Jordan is fun enough to follow. He brings his usual charm and quirk to the film, the bod didn't hurt to watch either. In my opinion Reynolds did a very good job portraying Jordan. I would have really liked to see more action and less dialogue between he and Blake Lively's Carol Ferris.
Chemistry between Lively & Reynolds is non existent. I think it would have played out better if it were a relationship between big brother or best friend. Definitely not believable as romantic couple. The one and Only kiss between the two fizzled out before it was even over. Lively is beautiful as always and I love her in films like " Sister Hood" but as a love interest in this movie...not good.. (who does NOT have Chemistry with Ryan Reynolds??)
Peter Sarsgaard's Hammond was gross and even scary at times. Sarsgaard played the role of deformed telepath perfectly. There is really nothing he cant do well.
The film is about Hal Jordan's journey from Jerk to hero. I left the theater wanting... more ... more action ... just more..
I assume that there will be a sequel. That is the impression i was left with at the end of the movie. Judging by the lack of box office returns, that’s a sequel that probably won't happen. I felt like the studios held back when they should have given it all they had. Studios need to learn a franchise can only survive or even begin if you lay it all on the line. I was not left feeling committed to any of the characters on screen.
Hal's costume was also a problem for me. I know this movie cost well over 200 Million to make and still the effects were not up to par. Hal's mask alone appears to be photo shopped on.
The actors are not to blame for the lameness of the movie.. Ryan Reynolds and Sarsgaard actually made this worth watching. Even the direction can’t be held accountable. Maybe a better production team could have taken it further...
Even with all my complaints the movie is still watchable. I do recommend this film.. as a rental..Not really a BIG blockbuster in my book.

16 candles ..... Flashback

I was 14 years old when i first saw this movie. John Hughes: the Shakespeare of Teenage Angst ... I love all of his work and am very proud to say that i have passed his work along to my 14 year old daughter...
She and I went to the showing of 16 Candles Last night... what an amazing experience ... to sit next to my daughter and watch her take in the Awesomeness that is Jake Ryan.. the story line the actors.. ALL OF IT...
I was very surprised to see the theater was packed full of John Huges fans... SO great to hear them all yell out the famous lines..
Grandpa: Long .. where is my AUTOMOBILE...
Long Duck Dong: AUTOMOBILE
