The first thing you need to know is that this is not a Tom Hanks or Sandra Bullock movie, and that is not a bad thing. This is about a boy with lots of quirks and a very different sensibility who went through a loss for which he was totally unprepared. It wasn't as hard to watch as I thought it would be and Max von Sydow was very good.
You need to see it and decide for yourself how important it is. I liked that they didn't preach to me about anything, I found that refreshing.
Very good movie - compelling story. My only thought is that it felt like it started in the middle and I needed to know more about what came before than they were able to tell me in order to understand the characters. I guess you could say that about most movies. While the scenery was beautiful it wasn't just a location pic. I sometimes judge the quality of a movie by whether I look at my watch; I was drawn into the story enough that I never did look.
Awesome visuals and cinematography, just not much complexity to the story. Amazing battlefield scenes and very interesting period piece but not much below the surface.
I will say, there were folks openly sobbing during the movie, so they must have been completely immersed. Must be seen on the big screen.
Tough to watch at times and realize this was the truth not too long ago, this fictional story seems very real. My wife wishes it were more true to the book, but it is a very good movie. Go see it.
If you don't like nudity or lowbrow comedy, don't go. If you need an original storyline don't go. If you've wanted to see "more" of Leslie Mann since Big Daddy, this is a must see. This is "Big" meets "17 Again" meets "it's a Wonderful Life". All that being said, the theater was air conditioned and I enjoyed it. Thank you Leslie Mann.
Unlike many of these movies this one wasn't totally predictable and my wife really enjoyed it. The best part was the studio didn't give everything away in the trailers! Steve Carell is actually starting to become a completely believable actor. As someone who was dragged to this one, I had a good time.
It was the best movie I saw that night. That's about all I can say for Paul Blart. Kevin James has a good presence, but the movie tried to be serious at times, and while the funny stuff was funny, it wasn't that funny.
Well worth seeing if only as a period piece; but it is also very well acted. If you need every detail explained you will leave unsatisfied, several elements left for your consideration and conjecture.
