Returns to the heart of Twilight

After seriously going off the tracks with New Moon and Eclipse, Breaking Dawn Pt 1 returns to the heart of the saga for the first time since Twilight - the epic love story of Edward and Bella, which captivated millions of readers. So here we see a lighthearted Edward and nervous Bella marry in a romantic wedding, grow closer during their honeymoon, and then face a pregnancy both unexpected and dangerous. Edward's love of Bella at first prevents him from understanding his wife's choice to continue a pregnancy which could well kill her, but he comes to understand her decision. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have never been better in their roles and are totally believable as each event takes place in the story. The birth scene is captivating and Pattinson's anguish is palpable. The film lags when the focus is not on Edward and Bella, as the wolves are collectively lacking in the acting and charisma departments, but thankfully the distractions are kept to a minimum and the vampires are once again given the opportunity to take center stage. The ending can stand alone, but also is a great enticement to see the final chapter next November.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Best of the saga

Really enjoyed seeing Twilight again on the big screen. It is without a doubt the best film of the series and loved the focus in this movie was quarely where it belonged - on the epic loved between Edward and Bella, and not off introducing new characters and expounding on things a majority of readers skip on subsequent readings - i.e., the wolves. The interaction between the leads was effective and believeable and everything worked together to sweep you into the story. Music was well-suited and the build-up worked well. I hope Breaking Dawn will return to the romance of the books and away from attempts to increase the audience at the expense of the core romance. (Also: loved the hospital scene where Bella decisively states that she can never stand to be separated from Edward. Wish the screenwriter would have remembered that when it came time for the final meadow scene in Eclipse where Bella goes completely out of character and says she doesn't want to become a vampire for Edward.) Twilight got it right.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Beautiful, quality film!

This film harks back to an earlier time, both in terms of movie setting as well as feel. This film reeks of quality and the cinematography is so lush that if it doesn't win an award for that alone, it will be a travesty. The novel was consdensed nicely to translate onto the screen and the modifications made were helpful. The actors were well cast. Christoph Waltz brought the right mix of madness and brightness to his role as August. Renee Witherspoon captured a woman torn between duty, survival and love. And Robert Pattinson was captivating. He inhabited Jacob so thoroughly, I couldn't see the actor but the character, which was wonderful. This film is exceptional and if you are a fan of cinema, you should see it to assure yourself that quality productions can still be made today.

Much better than New Moon

I had my doubts when David Slade was announced as director, but he really did a good job of keeping the story moving and of focusing on romance and action. The three leads performed much better than prior, and my only criticism is over the script catering too much to Lautner's role. Jacob in the book was vastly different than what was scripted here as was Bella's actions at times. But, for those who haven't read the books, that wouldn't have been a barrier. At any rate, I enjoyed the movie and the presence of more playfulness between Edward and Bella and the tent scene was especially well done.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Compelling Family Drama

RM is a gritty, realistic portrayal of dysfunctional families that many can relate to. Pattinson is quite moving & surprisingly subtle & the dynamics of his character's relationships with his sister, father, mother, friend & girlfriend are all varied & rich. His range is impressive & the camera adores him. deRavin is immensely likeable & her scenes with Pattinson are layered & build. Jerins is a gem. Brosnan & Cooper inhabit their roles with gusto. The script by Fetters is impressive. Coulter’s storylines intertwine & emerge as a thoughtful analysis of what is important in life. This film is easily the best I've seen this year & I will definitely see again. All involved should be proud of the result: a moving & honest family drama.

Rushed in parts

Like the book, it dragged in the middle. Lautner could have benefited from acting classes. The wolves constant shirtlessness grew tiresome. Stewart did a great job portraying Bella's dispair & then growing maturity. Her scenes with Pattinson were the highlights of the film. Their chemistry is undeniable, but their scenes were cut short to focus on Jacob/Bella's relationship. The film suffered as a result (cutting the reunion short, minimal explanation as to why Edward left, skimpy proposal scene). Pattinson was spot on as Edward, first charming, then tortured, later grieving & finally renewed. Once again, Kendrick & Burke shined. Overall, a very good movie with rich cimematography.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
