I have read the series and loved it! I thought the movie did a good job of keeping the story intact for the time it had. For those who haven't read the book they might not understand some things but most likely will still enjoy the story. Hopefully it will make you want to read the series and hopefully they will make the rest of it into movies too! This will be a must have on dvd!!
