I was hoping that there would be something more than kid-fare, and there was. One can draw many parallels between Coraline's alternate dimension, and their own life's parallels. Great voice acting, by the way, Fanning. There's definitely more than meets the eye in this 3-D movie. If you can see this in 3-D, you owe it to yourself to see it. I did hear one youngster in the audience crying for his mommy a few times, so it may not be fit for any ages under 9.
This movie had a few funny parts, but not laugh out loud funny. It was short and seemed like it was too generic. The story was spoonfed and seemed canned. I would have to say, even Bride Wars is better than this movie. Siobhan Fallon Hogan gets the best actor nod in this, although Zellweger looks better now that she lost weight.
I went to see this with my wife. I feel obligated to see a number of chick-flicks with her once in a while, because I respect my marriage. Too bad this movie seems to "take a dump" on the concept of marriage. This movie would be good for women in certain age groups. If you have any respect for weddings or marriage, skip this. If you like back and forth slapstick humor contests, then you might like this.
The movie threw quite a bit out there in the first 20 minutes, for someone who is new to the whole Underworld thing, it seemed like a lot to follow. After the beginning, the story flows better and the plot pulls you in. I must say I was expecting less, but I was pleasantly surprised. Lots of action scenes and they're well paced. Bill Nighy is great as usual.
You know the story. The guy is on India's version of "Who wants to be a Millionaire", and all the questions have to do with earlier events in his life. Great acting, and a great story. I can't think of anyone who wouldn't like this!
While this movie has some of the best 3D visuals of 3D movies to date, it isn't that good.
Keep in mind that during the plots of most horror movies, the main characters are made out to be so annoying, that I sometimes find myself secretly rooting for the bad guy. There were only 4 or 5 bloody action 3D sequences, and the rest of the movie had a teenage, "who-dunnit" type of flavor to it. Almost like Scooby-Doo. It was decent, but lacked the kind of "wow" factor that I was hoping it would have. Worth the price of a 3D view.
Oh, and if you are reading this... Keep your 3D glasses on and stay until the end of the credits for a little extra something.
Like most "dog" movies, you pretty much know how things will turn out. You know this movie is about a dog, but most of the story seems to be about the family and the dog seems to be a background character.
The point seems to be that a dog will love it's owner no matter what. Whether you're rich, poor, ugly, pretty, in a shack or a mansion. The message gets driven home at the end, but most of the movie has other family issues at the heart of it and it seems like the dog was just there as a background theme to add humor from time to time.
If you like dogs, you'll like this movie. If you like good movies, go see something else.
Eastwood is perfect. Just perfect. The other main characters are so great you feel emotionally attached to them yourself. The unexpected ending also fits perfectly with the story. The only thing that some people may not like is the profane racial slurs that seem to come out every 5 minutes in the film. If you can get past that, (it actually adds to Clint's character and can even be funny if you can accept the humor of it), you won't have any complaints either. Great movie, but if you have kids, maybe hold off until you see it and deem it acceptable for them to view. 13+ is what I would say. Another "must see" movie this year. Movies this good don't come around too often.
A recycled story that tries too hard to have a "green" theme that seems to be so commercially forced these days. It was what I expected it to be. The only plus is the acting of Keanu Reeves. His flat and aloof acting style fits in perfectly as an alien who is not quite a human. One of those roles that it seems he was born to do. Kathy Bates wasn't at her best and she seemed uncomfortable. I love her acting in other films, but she didn't seem to fit her character here. Other than that, it was a mess of special effects and generic acting. Maybe worth a rental if you have nothing else to see. Maybe.
