Russia...a mega country with a huge gap between wealthy and peasant classes is shown in all its non glory. Boris kills the heir to the Czarist throne and guilt for the misdeed destroys him.The singing is glorious, the orchestra unbelievably grand. The five hours sped by. A must see for all Opera lovers...but not to be recommended for a first timer to the art form.
Beautiful singing and orchestral accompaniment, but the direction was static and did not bring out the characters well. The set was overblown and unnecessarily exprensive. Is it worth seeing....yes, especially at HD live at the Met. Keep this good program going. We did have two or three glitches of the picture going out, but the Showcase was extremely gracious and gave us return tickets. Brovo!
I live in Cincinnati OH and had to be in Lavonia MI for business this weekend. So instead of seeing it at home my wife and I saw the HD Live "Sonnambula" at the AMC there. It was a fabulous Opera! What a treat this would have been for a new opera attendee. A problem with HD Live at the Met is that the advertising goes to the opera afficionados. Attendance could be tripled if more aggressive advertising were pursued in newspapers and other venues which should be aimed at the non-opera goers. However, keep up the good work; we shall continue to be regulars.
