Didn't read the book, but loved this film. Kristen Scott Thomas carried the film remarkably, I almost forgot she isn't French. Switching back and forth between the English and French conversations was effortless thanks to the subtitles (happily, moi, je parle francais). The compelling relationships kept me riveted awaiting the next morsel of information to discover what happened to Sarah and the key.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

WE all decided this was better than the Hangover 2, and as good as the first Hangover. WIthout the sex at the beginning, and some of the language, it could've been pg-13. Entertaining without being stupid.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Best for families

Formula movie: dad-beat Dad, trying to prove something, stuffed shirt corporate types wanting more from him, disappointed children and estranged wife brought back into the meld once he wakes up and "smells the penguins". Glimmer of Jim Carrey's comedic talent helped me not sleep through this. Unless you are put off by pooping, nothing offensive for families.
My kids age 11 and 13 who read the graphic novel were somewhat confused as to why there wasn't any mention of "the death note". They didn't enjoy the movie becuase the flavor was completely something they had expected.
