As an older guy who has seen every original series episode, I sincerely thought the movie was fantastic! Special effects were just amazing as well. I didn't bother with the 3D version. 2D suited me just fine. I know there are a lot of purists out there that like to nit pick every little thing about what they think the movie "missed' or got wrong, but I'm the type that can enjoy a movie for what it is. And I just loved the way all the actors portrayed their characters. It's tougher for them, because the original actors developed their own character, whereas these new actors have to try and match the original. And I think they did a super job! I will probably go back and see it again while still at the theaters.
Great job on the story and script. I don’t always like remakes (e.g. “Longest Yard”, “Day the Earth Stood Still”), but I very much enjoyed this one. I do like it when a remake of a movie recreates a few dialogue matches from the original screenplay, even if they aren’t exact or varied intentionally to provide for unpredictability at the same time. It makes me smile and also allows for a certain degree of continuity and flow. Some of the acting was a little short of spectacular, but satisfying entertaining. Good action sequences and effective use of non-cgi special effects to just the right degree without it being overdone. Any use of cgi, in my opinion, was used clandestinely enough that I really didn’t even notice it. I just wish the camera work wasn't so unnecessarily, if not intentionally "shaky and "herky-jerky". But, I thoroughly enjoyed the entire movie. If you enjoyed the original, I think you will enjoy this one too.
George Lucas did not fail to deliver once again! Loved the movie! Acting was superb and special FX were amazing! Although all parts of the history of the Tuskegee Airmen could not be covered in a 2 hr film, I believe it covered most of the important areas. I hope I can meet a Tuskegee Airman pilot soon and shake his hand!
I can usually absorb at least some entertainment value out of a movie, but this is the first time I have ever left a “one star” rating on any film (even including some bad “B” movies)! There is something about films made in Great Britain that just make absolute no sense! The dialogue, the scripts, the scene transitions…all just seem like a hodgepodge soup of crap that makes you just look at the screen with your mouth open thinking..WTF? Also, the actual film quality is horrible (very grainy, colorless and dark!) Extremely depressing and boring. Do not subject yourself to this waste of a film …please!
I do like Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller, and I can usually get some decent entertainment out of just about any movie, but the entire plot of the movie was just plain unbelievable and unrealistic. Most of what happened is never explained as to how things were accomplished. And the number of convenient and and just plain lucky coincidences made you just want to keep saying "BS!" throughout the whole thing. Don't waste your money!
I can get at least some entertainment value out of most any movie, but as much as I tried, I just could not get myself to enjoy this one! Very depressing and bad ending! Good cast, but horrible story and script! Way too much dead, boring space, and many loose ends....nothing seemed to tie together. And I have nothing against sex in movies, but the scenes in this flick were just plain sickening. Gere allowed himself to sink into a shady, slimy role even though he ended up saving lives at the end. Don't see this with a child, and not even with a date. You will end up very uncomfortable and feeling bad at the end!
Anyone who would give this film a negative review has either got to be a typical “politically correct” Hollywood critic, or just completely incapable of being satisfied regardless of the content, storyline, or direction. There are some that may insist that any Rambo film absolutely must follow the exact same methods (strategy, weapons etc) as the previous Rambo films. I personally have enjoyed all the previous Rambo movies (“First Blood” especially), but this film stands alone as my personal favorite of them all! It is refreshing to experience such an “in-your-face” style of menacing, savage combat violence in the midst of all these typical Hollywood influenced films. Stallone’s character is satisfyingly serious, stern and foreboding without the typical “gung ho” overacting that we’ve all seen in some other war or combat movies with other actors and directors. This is by far the most brutal, “blood and guts” war movie I have seen to date. One previous review had it right…”This film makes Saving Private Ryan” seem like a Disney movie”! If I had not been pressed for time, I would have stayed for a second viewing, which I have never done with any movie before! And Stallone does look amazing for his age. I only wish that the film had been longer!
