Don't be turned off by the completely over-the-top opening credits which lead you to think you are going to see some dystopic slasher movie. Once the story begins David Fincher does a fine job of putting the Steig Larssen story into a more linear, comprehensible tale, especially for viewers who have not read the books. Fincher's story changes from the novel made sense and were faithful to the Larssen essence.
Must advise that this film is not for the faint of heart and there is graphic depiction of rape, sex and animal mutilation. None of it, I might add, is there for its own sake and all of it is essential to the plot which essentially deals with the exploitation and degradation of women by elements of our society.
The performances fit the characters like fine gloves. The much bally-hooed appearance of Rooney Mara as Lizbeth is spot on and you don't doubt for a moment what she has been through or what she does during the movie.
Can't wait for the next one!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The Kids Are Alright

Total "slice of life" movie....albeit a contemporary California slice. Deals intelligently with a "brave new world" dilemma..children of a lesbian couple contact and introduce their sperm donor biological father, played wonderfully by Mark Ruffalo, to their mothers. All of the characters and performances are so real, well written and performed that you feel as though you have been involved with them, almost as part of the family. Both Julianne Moore and Annette Benning give Oscar consideration performances and the rest of the cast is right there with them.
Not for the faint of heart and, definitely not for the kids, the frank portrayals of lesbian and heterosexual love play are not gratuitous and are important to developing the plot but can be disturbing for someone not prepared for this brush with reality.
A must see for the serious movie goer!
Yes, I recommend this movie.
