It helps to already love the primary actors/actresses in a movie when you go but that is not always a guarantee. But in this case, it is icing on the cake. Colin Firth turns in a first rate performance as do Geoffrey Rush and Helena Bonham Carter. This movie humanizes the character's struggles and gives us a glimpse into what must have been an incredibly difficult time in England's history. Most of us remember the king who abdicated his throne for love but few of us have asked questions about the effect that had on the monarchy and those left behind. This story is brilliantly told and Colin Firth is to be commended on his portrayal. Love, Love, Love this movie.
Our group included 2 very eager 10 year-olds who had read every page of the books as well as 4 others who had also. Knowing how hard it is to adapt a book to a movie however, I think the author should still be pleased with the outcome. I really like the casting choices for just about every part in the movie. The 3 main actors were VERY good choices and did their jobs well. The special effects were well done - I love Pierce Brosnan as a centaur! I don't think this movie will garner the enthusiasm enjoyed by Harry Potter series but no one could have predicted that either! TLT is a good story and a well done movie. I'd not take very young kids but all other ages would find it enjoyable.
