Like others, I was sucked into the hype of this movie. To say it was a disappointment would be an enormous understatement and while I could write for hours regarding the MANY issues, here are a few important notes:
The script was just plain terrible. I remember thinking, many times, who in the world wrote this piece of crap? Action movies be what they may, if the actors sound like unsure 4th graders, the movie is toast. Furthermore, there is little-to-no character development and the story is predictable beyond reason. I had high expectations for Toro but he seemed to fall into the Lucas trap, where by, lazy acting was given a pass and line delivery was painful at best. There was no bond with the characters, the secondary "humanistic" storyline was a disaster, deliberate eye roller and insulting.
In the end, rather than rooting for the good guys and the survival of mankind, I found myself cheering on the kaiju and laughing in moments which were meant to be poignant.
Hurried directing, drawn out and predicable story line, below average acting, annoying script (and I mean ANNOYING) and zero substance.
This movie was written by the mind of a frustrated 14 year-old . Most "humor" was off-color, distracting, stereotypical, border-line offensive. One caveman-like innuendo another.
Decent action sequences, a couple of hero moments and The Bay knows how to blow stuff up. It's no secret he is also a huge is a fan of the military and they are shown in good light in this installment.
CGI effects are amazing, if you like seeing robots tear each other apart, you will not be disappointed.
Let's hope in the next sequel, Bay borrows a page from The Abrams Team playbook, developing a winning formula of edgy dialogue, rapid action, human elements and great special effects. Is he does, Transformers will once again Rise...
