It is not enough to say that the singing was heavenly, the orchestra superb, and the staging perfection. This was a company of REAL actors whose every expression (especially in HD) was revelatory or moving or laugh-producing.
How does your heart not break when, in the first act, you see the Marschallin (thank you Ms. Fleming for exquisite work) succumbing to the dread of the years to come. And how do you not suffer with Ocatavian (and thank you Ms. Graham for mesmerizing us all) as he is dismissed as one who will, one day, betray the one he loves. And you have to agree that Baron Ochs was wonderfully loathesome.
Thank you to all in the company. It was thrilling. Unglaublich.
