Josh Brolin gives a superb performance as a laid back, down to earth, nobody, with smarts and warrior skills. Javier Bardem is mesmerizing as a down to earth, slightly off his rocker, gun for hire. Kelly Macdonald is just fabulous as the wife that's stuck with the pointless life she has and scared to death she's gonna loose even that. The film stays entertaining, perhaps lacking good sound effects more than anything else. It does drag towards the end with fillers that might just as well have been left out. Overall, for me, it's a classic. Would I buy the DVD? Yes
Well acted, entertaining, and fun for the period appeal, Sweeney Todd, never-the-less, represents a shocking low point in the history of DreamWorks productions. Not just graphically violent but boringly repetitive violence that was entertaining the first time or two or three but meaningless filler continued well into round ten and beyond. As a musical, It seems to be designed as an avenue of conveying horrid brutality as just good clean fun. Not my cup of tea, but the actors and scenery kept if from being a terrible disaster. My key to appeal is: Would I buy it on DVD? ... Not on my life!
Charlie's War moves fast and remains continually engaging throughout. It's short length contributes, and the acting and action is consistently good and entertaining. The catch? Well from a perspective like mine, the movie has a strong propaganda undertone designed to convey just how much of a nation hero Charlie was and how great a thing he did for others when no one else cared. The sad reality? His behavior is, all about treason to the Republic and the Constitution of the United States. The Federalist, Big Government, Big Business, system, thrives and survives on fabricating causes and wars of all kinds and utilizes these presentations to make it all seem like such a wonderful and noble deed worth doing.
