Not great, but good. Fun, creative and just a little disappointing. I give the film a lot of credit for being good clean family fun and not to be taking seriously.
This movie is little more than a propaganda film used to condition people to a rational for torture. It is a very violent, sadistic and cruel film that carefully splices nice socially acceptable morals on top of brutality. The film is long only because no one but the Joker can shoot. Promoted for it's good acting what you see is the real motivation for making the film.
First - where I say the movie they charged double. It was like $18 to see this thing. Second - It is long, long, long - 4 hours + intermission. Third - Benito is tooooo old for the part. Great they landed him for the role but it doesn't play that well. Four - There are only a half dozen scenes in the movie really. They walk, they walk up the hill, they wait for Che to get his breath, they sit etc. over and over and over.
Che was a great and true revolutionary and humanitarian if you where on his side and they brought that out very clearly about twenty times.
My suggestion - wait, buy the DVD so you can watch it in chunks over a few days, weeks or months.
Great movie -- Complex but not too complex, long but substantive. Forceful portrayal of the real world cutthroat India and Indians with just a sliver of Love leading to hope.
A very well done humanistic film that shows a good, healthy balanced view of human ignorance, arrogance and frailty. Just about all the key people in the film become both the bad guy as well as the good guy. The film is a very pleasant surprise.
This is a very long and drawn out movie. As much as 45 minutes of filler. It is an interesting story and heart felt but holy crap! I personally don't feel any actor should be eligible for an oscar nomination because it's impossible to know what is acting and what is computer generated morphing of the actors faces. This is a technological state of the art piece of work that I found a bit scary.
This is one of those movies that eventually (and I do mean eventually) makes sense only because key aspects are deliberately left out throughout the movie. Hard to explain but there was, for me, some serious confusion here and there leading up to the plot twist. Good acting and personable characters make the store entertaining. I found the ending to be very emotional for some reason. Probably because the characters are so well done. One of those movies that always seems to be in a haze. But, I guarantee, you'll live through it!
A great example of the illusion of freedom and the prevalence of corruption. A true and shocking example of how readily most people will cooperate in wrong doing even faced with its ridiculous and illogical nature. Well acted and of course, well directed. Angelina Jolie gives a very strong and subdued performance. Well worth the time.
Great cast helps the movie along. Not a great story, doesn't quite play well. The premise is a cop is pushed over the edge by new and inconsiderate neighbors. The idea seems to be the cop is already standing on the edge. Not sure how else to read it, but that's entertainment! Could be better, could be worse. Not sure promoting the cop as the bad guy is really the right approach for this story.
