Special effects so great you'd swear you're in a 50s B movie. This film is great. Just the right amount of tongue in cheek humor mixed with deadly serious intergalactic subject matter. This movie is way better than the Watchmen. Keeps you on the edge of your tuck and roll upholstery. -- Just a few no way in the 50s scenes. Other than that the film is family friendly and great fun.
Sadistic, violent, brutal, gory, soft core porn film disguised as artsy sci-fi drama. Really, no redeeming quality. Very predictable, very, very long, nothing interesting in theme. Plays upon conspiracy subjects as if to desensitize or trivialize them as just part of make believe.
Moments of Hitchcock and moments of Kubrick make for a rather surprising film. Not just another movie about racing the clock, it plays reasonably well with a kind of subtle intrigue. However, the film does have its disappointments and is a bit too contrived on several points. Some points, necessary for the film story to work and some completely unnecessary and even disappointing. All, in all, it's a surprising and unusual film to come from the mainstream.
This is one of those merging multi-storylines that plays ok, holds your interest, but is just a bit too complex. Some minor twists and turns. Some winners, some loosers in the illegal immigration game. Harrison Ford proves to be the consistent hero. A good amount of humanity and human struggle without being a poor illegal alien flick. I would say parts are fairly politically "correct" and others are more honest and on point. Worth the watch but expect some boredom to creep in.
As a family film, the movie is ok. A little too much killing to really be a quality family film. The primary problem is a lack of good direction. The movie does great with special effects and uses obscurity to hide details adequately, but the director seems to be low budget. Not enough work with the actors on the scenes. All things considered, by modern standards, the film is good entertainment.
Mildly funny must of the time. Kevin James sweet smile and amiable nature combined with "should have been fired" situations makes this movie a lot of fun. Very simple, pretty predictable but just good family film making.
Of course, this is the typical Hollywood, short attention span flick. But never the less, there are some cleaver and creative uses of the so-called psychic powers of the semi-superheroes. It plays well, though it is complicated enough to be slightly confusing. Twists and turns abound adding and detracting from the film.
I enjoyed the movie though it does seem to wander a bit. The movie interlaces good and poignant comments relevant to the world situation such as the real purpose of banks is to create debt slavery of individuals and nations and the reason more bad guys aren't caught is that they are part of the ruling system. I appreciate the underlying reasoning behind the film, but, it is also well made and intriguing though not great by any means.
I was afraid, always in heat, Nicole Kidman would ruin the film with her lustful demeanor but no, the movie comes off fairly well and a good family film to boot! The film seems to think it's the first movie to ever bring up the subject of the government kidnapping of native children. Almost as if on a crusade. I guess they thought that would make it something like a true story. But despite the contrivances it's not a bad film though not great by any means.
I can't think of another actor that would be better fitted to this part. Mickey Rourke did a great low key job. Still the film leaves a bit to be desired. It just doesn't come off with the dramatic effect I think the author was hoping for. I kept asking myself simply questions like why, why, why. Rourke plays this way past stupid professional wrestler who just can't give up the life style he's habituated too. Circumstances just stack up against him even when he wants to break free. It could have been better and just didn't quite make it for me.
