Swashbuckling in Space

As an old Trekker, I'm disappointed that this didn't contain the Trek tradition of building its theme around dealing with a "social issue"; Instead, this was a raucous swashbuckling-in-space film, and a thoroughly entertaining ride. The casting was superb, the writing very witty. And, the re-imagining/updating of the Trek universe was most welcome; I look forward to more, and will definitely go and see this one again! A great romp!
Yes, I recommend this movie.

So Much Wasted Potential

An A-List Actor in a movie with B-quality special effects, handicapped by a C-quality screenplay. Too many missed opportunities for character development; limited thematic imagery or content. Did they even know what the original story was truly "about"? Just another money-making vehicle for Hollywood. Will Smith, as usual, was excellent.
No, I do not recommend this movie.
