This movie was great for the first 3/4. Fantastic writing, almost poetic in how the story grew. However, the ending seemed like a complete cop-out and left me unsatisfied.
It's not often that a movie makes me cry both through excessive laughter AND through being touched. Ghost Town did just that. Ricky Gervais is phenomenal, per usual, and at times reminds me of his excellent portrayal of David Brent in "The Office."
At the same time, this movie tugged at my heart-strings too. Great to see with friends, or on a date-night.
The Dark Knight was one of the best superhero movies made in recent years, and Heath Ledger's final performance on the silver screen was stellar (I wish there was more of him in the movie). However, the movie falls short of the "masterpiece" label it has been given by most people.
In fact, I wonder if people are hyping it up a bit too much b/c of Ledger's tragic and untimely passing.
A great action movie, but it requires you to be able to do 2 things: 1) appreciate some subtle humor 2) suspend your perception of reality to a limited degree, while maintaining it as well. If you can do both of those, you'll enjoy it as much as I did. Otherwise, you'll walk out shaking your head and missing your $12. It won't win any Oscars, but you'll be intrigued throughout. James McAvoy does a pretty decent job, Angelina is Angelina (whether you consider it good or bad), and Morgan Freeman is an interesting choice for the role he plays.
