Having now seen "Milk" and "The Wrestler" over the last two weeks, I'm glad I don't have to cast a vote for Best Actor. The art of bring to life these character roles that Sean Penn and Mickey Rourke portrayed (one real, one fictional), were beyond spectacular. Kudos to both actors (and the supporting casts and production teams, as well).
We saw the first MAdagascar with our grandchildred (12 & 9). They have moved away, but that didn't stop us from sseing the movie. Took few minutes to realize that opening was just setting up how Alex got to New York. Only complaint was the character "Nana". Too ethnic and too much violence. All in all, very funny and enjoyable.
Before going to the movie, I read reviews that were posted at at the time (July 27th AM), but mostly, I read the ones with 2 stars or fewer. I was going anyway, but wanted to know what negatives the other viewers had. I thought that Pierce Brosnan was actually pretty good, considering that he is not a "singer". I thought that Meryl Streep was outstanding, and the other leads were very good, although, I did have a problem with some in the chorus. And as for Dominic Cooper (Sky,) I did not care for him. Overall, the movie was fun and I would highly recommend it to my friends.
While the 3-D effects were terrific, overall the movie was just OK. I would recommend this movie to someone who was into effects, or had nothing else to see.
