I have never before spent so much time talking with people, really just about everyone I know who saw this, on how bad a film is. It is visually quite beautiful and there are scary moments but the story is such a mess from the first ridiculous scene to the last tacked on unnecessary moment.
The problem is not just the frustrating holes in the plot or unexplained elements but the totally illogical and nonsensical plot choices. The more I think of this moving the more maddening it is. I think this movie bothers me so much because it could have been good if someone just applied common sense to the script.
if the goal of the movie was to provoke discussion, it succeeded. However I doubt the intent was for people to spend all their time discussing how bad it was.
