If this abomination of a film were released as a comedy, it might have been hailed as the most subversive satire ever. But these people are totally serious about this film, with a lame story and a lead actor who seems to be uncomfortable in mens clothing.
I don't know who the people are who bumped up the rating here, perhaps they are getting a check from LGF but I can assure you that this is not a good film by any stretch of the imagination.
when the only way a film can scare you is to create total silence and then burst a loud noise, you now you are in trouble. PA has lost its mojo by choosing lame actors and derivative stories. Not worth the price of popcorn.
A nice try to capitalize on the franchise but it's bogged down in poor acting a terrible story and special effects that are dazzling but leave you crashed when they are gone.
A couple of famous actors only make things worse by beging so good that they make the other actors around them seem wooden.
There is definitely something sinister ging on in "Sinister" the Ethan Hawke film about a true-crime writer who stumbles upon the case of a lifetime. I will not give away any plot point because this film should be enjoyed for its bold storytelling and a commanding performance by Hawke. Let's just say it will scare the crap out of you.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, eathan hawke
Looper is a great action sci fi film that uses time-travel to dramatic effect. Talking about the plot is useless. You have to see it and just go with it. You'll get so caught up in the life of these two (really one) men that you won't care that time travel rules are being broken in every frame.
The movie slows down but the lovely Emily Blunt makes you forget that in her tight jeans and skimpy nightie. Levitt does a dead-on Willis as his younger self and both men play the character Joe with skill, showing hoe much he has and has not changed over the years.
Flaws and all, Looper is better than most of the crap that passes for action and thrillers. Too bad they can't do another one.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, emily blint in a nightie
At this point in a franchise, you have to ask why it has gone on so long. The answer is Milla Jovovich, the gorgeous kick ass hero who has managed to become the best female action star in movie history.
The movie is good as usual but Jovovich manages to endow her Alice with something we never knew she had: a heart.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, milla jovovich 3/4 nude
Dredd is not just good, it reminds of of what actions movies and heroes should be. Energetic, spare and relentless in tempo. It starts with a bang and never lets up. you know a movie is good when the audience fears for the life of the lead actor.
Karl Urban is great as Judge Dredd and creates a towering authority figure using only the bottom part of his face. Olivia Thirlby is great and the sidekick with more kick than side and Lena Headly is simply the most menacing bad guy in recent history.
So why is this movie struggling. I'll tell you why. Hollywood has become dependent on marketing and frightened little people who are disconnected from the population. had this movie come out in the early part of the year, it would have been a mega hit but somewhere int he testing and committee meetings, no one cold see what they have here: a franchise. Let's hope Europe saves this fine film.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, fight scenes, karl urban, badass gun
Anderson had gotten his last dime from me. he is a naked emperor fueled by film school loser critics who yearn for meaning in modern movies.
Paul Thomas Anderson ironically is as full of crap as the conman in his movie. He is a Master at cinematic b.s., a magician who disarms you with great actos, pretty pictures and moving score. too bad the movies are EMPTY and meaningful only to him and the ten film critics who struggle to find depth in his wannabe Kubrick style.
Anderson reminds me of the comedian who does not get irony and dies on stage each night and berates the audience for not being smart enough to get his damaged jokes.
Save your money and three hours of your life and pass on this fraud.
It's an updating of The Exorcist that's worthy of seeing. The Judiastic take on possession is filled with mysticism, fear and a nasty little demon.
But when the story comes down to earth it falls apart with a cliched dysfunctional family with a problem that no one can fathom. Hollywood lives in such a big bubble that none of them know what breaks a family these days.
thus you don;'care about them as much as the film wants you to and in the end ... meh.
