A good film with plentry of tension falls apart in the end when the smart characters start doing stupid things for effect. If an alien can walk through a wall, why would you think you can shoot it? Smarter choices would have elevated this film to a great metaphor about the collapse of he American family. As it stands, it's a SyFy movie with better FX.
A top-notch thriller that hits every note just right. this is a film not to be missed. Jude Law reminds us of his enormous talent and Rooney Mara is excellent in an all-star cast.
The story will keep you guessing all the way to the end and then some.
The fact that you know how this turns out ruins any excitement. sorry but when it's an oscure, little-known true story don' tell people what happened!!!!
Don;t let the Matt Damon fool you. This is not a environmental movie. It is a film about values and the indomitable American spirit and guess what Matt Damon loves America. You can tell it in every frame of this amazing movie. Bravo and Hal Holbrook give a performance that should have been nominates for an Oscar.
The Aurora shooting killed this movie. Infamously, there was a scenen in the trailer where gangsters machined gunned through a movie screen. The movie was pulled and rescheduled and eventually killed by the fallout.
But this is an excellent film. Lead by Josh Brolin and Sean Penn and larger than life gangster Mickey Cohen, it plays out over an LA in transition after the war.
PTSD, patriotism, racism greed and love all mix to give you a movie that rises to the level of epic. It is sad when out society's problem kill a great film. This is a casualty of the shooting that was not listed.
Dar, violent and befuddled, this film comes with a pedigree that it never lives up to. Also Jessica Chastain is very one dimensional but has a great rack.
this movie should not have worked. The story is mundane and the premise is... well there isn't one. But the ensemble may be the best since "annie Hall." In the end everything works and the movie reminds us what Hollywood can do when it trust a filmmaker who trusts himself.
Pros well paced, great story, great actors, jennifer lawrence butt
People have rejected this movie because they don't like the start but it is a very good action movie. Arnold is in good form as a world-weary sheriff whose retirement is ruined by a band of nasty drug dealers. With a motley crew of deputies, they al reach down into the well of the reasons they all became cops and the result is a slam bang movie.
It is hard to scare a society that has real demons in ti everyday, a nation where a serial killer is the start of a popular TV show. Mama tries and often succeeds until the end when everyone starts doing "stupid movie people stuff" like going into haunted cabins at night and trying to reason with evil demons. In the end, it is worth seeing, especially if you lije Jessica Chastain's breasts.
I knew nothing about this film going in other than it has a great cast. I was please to see that it is so much more. Brad Pitt is very good but it is James Gandolfini as a world-weary hit man who steals the show is a small but significant role.
The film explores the changes in new millennium America from the viewpoint of the lowest of the low and says emphatically that we are indeed all in this together.
