Character Development (4): For a horror flick, the characters were developed well. The sister-like bond between the two female leads was expressed well and the characters' actions were consistent with the personality types that were emphasized. Cinematography (5): It was extremely essential for the camera not to give away too much too quickly - this was handled quite well. The camera didn't hang on close gory shots, which was relieving after dealing with the recent torture flick phenomena. I think the special effects were realistic, which really creeps me out. Acting (5): With a horror movie, all I ask for (with regards to acting) is convincing reactions. I believe the acting was carried out quite well. Storyline/Plot (5): I felt that there were no loose ends - it was a very complete storyline with regards to the situation. A history of the ruins would have most likely destroyed the suspense and mystery factor. The threat was identifiable with superb timing, which well explained why the locals felt it necessary to quarantine the visitors. Suspense/Fear Factor (5): Pop-up frights would not have worked well here, so the well-paced focus on the mystery surrounding the ruins worked quite well. This well executed focus put the film in more of a "Disturbing" genre for me, rather than "Horror". This film's disturbing revelation makes me very leery in regards to future botanical purchases.
