I wasn't sure what to expect from this performance, because I had never seen a Globe Theater production before. I was surprised and delighted with this most amusing and skillful production. The performers, costumes, staging and setting were all wonderful. And the clarity of the performers' speech was a special surprise--every nuanced word was clear as a bell. I definitely recommend this movie to anyone who loves theater, especially those who love Shakespeare.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

The Met HD broadcast of Don Pasquale was a delight---Netrebko and Polizani, as the young lovers, sang and acted with skill and comic charm, and Kweicien and Del Carlo were a perfectly matched pair, especially in their "patter" aria. The Met HD broadcasts are a wonderful way for those of us who live some distance from the city, yet love opera, to be able to enjoy these terrific performances. I am very grateful for having these performances available at our local HD theater.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Ramon Vargas and Angela Gheorghiu are wonderfully paired in this production, their acting skills matching their superb singing ability. This Encore production is a great way to re-enjoy this opera classic.

Aida: One of Verdi's Best

The Met production, cast, and orchestra were top-notch. Opera singers aren't always the most beautiful or handsome individuals, but the glorious voices of the artists who sing in Met productions more than compensate for any physical shortcomings these singers might possess. It is a great privilege to be able to view these incredibly affordable productions in one's local theater. My one suggestion is that there be at least one of the traditional intermissions included during the evening.
Yes, I recommend this movie.
