I have been reading a lot of reviews saying that this movie is boring, slow, and a waste of time. I am wondering if we actually saw the same movie. If you think that the movie was boring, then don't bother reading the novel - almost everything is exact from the book. I happened to read the book after I saw the movie, and throughout the novel I could picture the scenes nearly verbatim from the movie. The adaptation is nearly perfect, and really does bring to life the characters that portray this wonderful story. I think some people who went to see this movie did not realize exactly what it was about...I know someone who went thinking it was more of a war story than a love story, and was subsequently dissapointed. The movie is about the passion, love, betrayal, hate, and guilt between the characters. It was made as a piece of British realism, not a cookie-cutter American blockbuster. So don't go in thinking you are getting explosions, carnage, and lots of death - go in with an open mind, expecting a delicately developed plot that accentuates every detail of the period, and draws you into that fateful night in 1935.
