A simple story of the kind that only becomes interesting when the characters have depth. This was an earnest attempt, but failed on all levels. It was superficial in its socio-political setting, its portrayal of the characters, and was tedious and boring, with no emotional punch.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Too long and slow, some good lyrics

Bridges' portrayal of a drunk country singer was excellent; Maggie Gyllenhaal unbelievable as the young cleancut woman who falls for him. Lots of music and the lyrics were more interesting than the script, which droned on for what seemed like hours.
No, I do not recommend this movie.

Poses some fundamental questions about human behavior, right and wrong. Asks the stinging question, "What would you have done?"
