I had been waiting to see this for several months. Sean Penn WAS Harvey Milk, nailing both his appearance and his unbounded liveliness. While his part isn't very large, Josh Brolin achieved an equally challenging task: making Dan White sympathetic. Instead of making him into a bigoted monster, Brolin portrayed him as an overwhelmed and tormented man who envied Harvey's success and popularity and probably just needed a friend . Emile Hirsch's performance confirmed that his knockout in Into The Wild was not a fluke, and James Franco proved he can be way more than just an attractive face. Overall, an excellent film readily deserving of all 8 of its Oscar nominations.
