We saw this movie as part of my daughter's bridesmaid week getaway. We enjoyed most of it, but everyone of us hated the ending. After making it clear that the Dex character was kind of a wishy washy wimp, having the movie end the way it did was disappointing and felt wrong! We haven't read the books, so maybe it was the actor more than the character. John and Gennifer were amazing. . .Kate Hudson played the role about the same way she's done previous and similar roles. Not the best chick flick I've seen.
As a Twilight fan, I was disappointed in the 1st movie. I was very worried about this one. Within the first 10 minutes, I knew this time was different! I loved it. It was true to the book; the few departures made sense and flowed with the rest of the movie. 5 Stars! Incredibly good!
Half Blood Prince was a book with replete with mystery and drama. The movie adaptation was for the most part a lighthearted romp. The horcruxes, which were so crucial to the book, were mentioned only in passing until the end, and so much attention was paid to Ron and Hermione's non-romance. . .there are several extraneous scenes which could and should have been cut in the interest of moving along the story line. Slightly choppy. . .the acting, however, was fabulous.
The performances of Diane Lane and Richard Gere were spot-on perfect; it's a shame that they were not given better material for this cinematic reunion. This movie was typical Sparks fare: boy meets girl, love ensues, disaster follows. Diane Lane in particular rose above the mediocre writing to deliver a moving performance, but ultimately, the entire story left the audience wanting.
