When I arrived at the theater it was half empty--and it stayed that way until I left. By comparison I noticed that the Met was full. The Met audience gave it a wonderful ovation as did we. This is not an often-performed opera (don't know why) and I suppose many people did not think it worth their time.
My opinion--a great afternoon at the opera. The production was wonderful, the music was beautiful and the soprano was a revelation. No one left early at the end as they usually do. I found myself getting choked up during the ovations. BRAVO.
We saw a preview of next season's HD productions--fantastic lineup. I hope I will be there.
I really enjoyed this production. I had never seen this opera before. The music at times sounded like Mozart, at others like Verdi. The 2 leads were phenomenal!!!
However, on a negative note, there was a little too much dancing for me. At times It overshadowed the opera. Mark Morris took over and went a little overboard. I found myself sayng at times "enough already".
But, you can't beat this. You no longer have to go to the Met to see these wonderful productions. I feel a little guilty complaining but I need to get it off my chest.
