I grew up watching the reruns of this old TV show. I always loved it, and I was at first somewhat skeptical about going to see this movie. But as I watched clips and read reviews, I thought it sounded good. And I am a huge Anne Hathaway fan--ever since i saw her in Princess Diaries. So I decided to give it a go.
And I am so glad I did! It kept the integrity of the old show. I always loved Don Adams' character, but Steve Carell's portrayal was very true to the original but smarter and very funny. I think when you have seen the TV series, you really appreciate the film. He and Anne Hathaway had a fantastic on-screen chemistry.
And the best part about it--no French kissing! I have to say I am apalled at the way so many movies nowadays have all this major, passionate kissing that turns my stomach. Their kiss was old-fashioned and nice. Call me old-fashioned, but this was a great film!
I really did enjoy this movie even though I am pretty sure it took some liberties with the original story. The visual effects in the movie were absolutely stunning, and it was nice to see another installment. I am partial to the first in the series, and I have to admit that it has been so many years since I read this book, I can't recall everything about the story. I think the acting was fairly good. It kept the interest of my 4-year-old daughter even though I don't think she understood everything going on. It's nice to have something out there family-friendly that has no bad language, inappropriate topics, or off-color humor. The humor was well-timed, and I would recommend this movie to a friend.
