Though it would help to have a little background on the conflicts in Colombia before seeing the movie, it is a well crafted story from the point of view of the children. Definitely worth it.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Inspiring story but too "churchy" for me

I can appreciate the story of this courageous girl who overcomes her tragedy but it was too preachy for my taste. I beleive we make our own way in life, not God. I didn't find the acting of the youth minister very beleivable. The best acting came from the young girl. It was fun to watch the surfing. My 11 year old daughter and her friend loved it though.
I really like this movie. Many children's movies I endure for the sake of my daughter but this once I can actually say I enjoyed all the way through. I laughed a lot. We took with us two visiting relatives that don't speak English and they liked it too.
We took two 9 year old girls and they were laughing during the movie. My husband and I were both laughing too and left with an overall good feeling. We thought it was much better than Madagascar II. Yes, it was a bit of a formula but it's a formula that works. The pigeons were very funny. I agree with other reviewers that this is not the best for very young children. Some sitting near us couldn't sit still either.
