Great Movie For The Family, Don't do 3D, though...

We went to check this movie out Friday night. The family had been in anticipation for quite some time, and it did not disappoint.
The story was good and the actors were great. Johnny Depp did his thing. For me, the 3D was cool even though there are some spots that were a bit tough on the eyes. But it wasn't nearly so bad to where I couldn't enjoy the film. The family, on the other hand, was getting headaches. They still enjoyed the movie by occasionally raising the 3D glasses from their eyes when it got a bit rough. For that reason only, I suggest watching it at a regular theater screening because they would've enjoyed it that much more if we had done the same.
All in all, great movie!

It was Good. Not Great, but Good.

The acting was good. The storyline was solid, but I would have liked to see more of Mos Def, who is a great actor and should've played a larger role. The stickup kids were a bit over the top, but that was aight. The weed theme went a little far, but it fitted into the context of the film.
I absolutely LOVED the fact that even with all of the cursing, violence and everything, not ONCE did I hear the "N-word". May not be a big deal to most, but that in itself earned MAD respect from me. I also liked some of the positive messages that were embedded in the story (even if they did come out sorta cheesy).
Overall, I think that this was a solid effort for 1st time movie director Benny Boom.
