Loved the story, visuals, overall creativity. IMAX was awesome. Sound levels were excruciating in places, dialogue muddy in others, frustrating mix overall. My ears were ringing for hours afterwards and I frankly think its unsafe for kids to be exposed to that kind of sound. Even if they like it! Other than this issue "Alice" will be on my top-10-of-all-time. I look forward to seeing it again on DVD, at home, where I can control the sound myself.
A fast-moving, intricate plot; disrupted timeline; and the twists and turns of who is or isn't to be trusted, make this an intellectual treat with a great final surprise. The 2 leads are handsome and passionate together (as my husband said on leaving, "we both got some good eye-candy!). The supporting cast are skilled character-players, and glimpses of exotic settings from Dubai to Barbados and a lush hotel in Rome provide adequate glam-factor. Unlike Thomas Crowne Affair remake and the Oceans-12 /13, the glossy surfaces here are balanced by grittiness, and no one has that too-clever-for-my-own-movie smirk. These characters have hearts as well as careers on the line, and come up winners.
