It wasn't an epic fun flick but it was still a worthy bit of entertainment. I saw this one with my partner and she enjoyed it to. The production values were high, the acting was great, and the action was great too. The special effects added to the film and didn't shove the characters aside in the process.
The latest installment in the Harry Potter saga takes us all on a dark and wonderful turn.
Things are increasingly grim in the magical realm that the adolescent Potter finds himself in. "Deathly Hallows - Part 1" captures this very nicely. This is not a happy, cheery or light hearted kiddie pic. For Potter fans though, this one is spot on.
The production values are outstanding, the acting is excellent, and the screenplay sticks very close to the actual book.
I think this part of the Harry Potter Movie Franchise is much better than the previous installment and does well the job of portraying just how dire things are for Harry & Crew at this point in the tale.
I highly recommend this film for all fans of the Harry Potter books.
Excellent production values, special effects which serve the story and do not overwhelm it, a coherent plot, a well done screenplay, and fine performances from the entire cast all combined to make this a nicely entertaining bit of entertainment.
Nick Cage steps ever further afield of his "usual" roles and does a credible job of playing a powerful magic using wizard.
The story moves right along with no real surprises but that was fine enough as it was well done. the "mop scene" is a great bit of homage to the classic that will bring a smile to the face of anyone who's ever seen the scene in Fantasia.
This isn't an epic film but it is very worthwhile entertainment.
And, actually, this was a pretty good flick. I've not read the book it was based on but the movie still made for a fun ride. Yes, it suffers in comparison to the Potter films as this one was clearly ushed and had a lot in it that was obviously skipped over or compressed for the sake of getting it on screen.
Still though, the film was well done, had a solid cast, and was fun to watch. Not grand or fantastic but not bad either.
Disaster pron! That's right. Pure and simple and nothing more.
The plot was boilerplate. The acting was effective within its rigid stereotype limits. The "science" of the film was beyond ludicrous. The "amazing sensational hairbreadth escapes" actually got a bit tiresome as they happened so repetitively. But it was the visuals which made up for it all.
The visuals of Los Angeles self destructing alone were worth the price of admission. But then, I caught a mid-day matinee show and thus didn't pay the evening price.
It was nicely done with an engaging storyline, endearing characters, a nicely realized story world, and a fine tale told well.
I think the film would work best with children who are at least in grade school but even those younger than that should at least like the imagery. The storyline presents some classic themes and handles them all well.
The animation is first rate and makes the critters seem more real than the humans! Broderick is perfectly cast in rendering the voice of Desperaux. And the other vocal characterization talent is also top notch.
Between them, they've brought new life and vitality to a franchise that was in desperate need of it. This second Craig Bond flick well lives up to the excellent standard that he set in Casino Royale.
The film is action packed, highly athletic, sophisticated, intricate, well acted, intense, and due to its lack of whiz bang gadgets along with a "realistic" diabolical villain's plot, is a much more believable and entertaining film.
I like the direction this franchise is headed in and am glad to see how Criag and crew are making Bond still relevant in this modern age that is so far removed from the Cold War era.
I got my money's worth in watching this film and recommend it highly.
Excellent and outstanding would be good words to use for this film - only they'd be understating how awesome it is!
Go see this movie!
Everything came together for this film. The production values are outstanding. The screenplay is exceptionally well done. The plot is flawless. The acting - from all the cast - is excellent. Favreau's direction is superb and clearly shows his love for the character and the genre.
And then there's Downey.
Mr. Downey nails it. Perfectly. His rendering of Tony Stark on screen brings the character to life in a way no previous incarnation has yet managed. Downey made this film with that and he burned up the screen with every scene he was in.
This film is what they mean by the word: Entertainment!
I enjoyed this film. It was a nice period piece and light hearted humor. Clooney is at the top of his game in such films and he worked fine here.
The pace was leisurely at times but still enjoyable throughout. Ms. Zellweger was also at the top of her form as the female reporter with lots of Moxie.
There were plenty of laugh out loud moments in this film and the dialog was very sharp. It also helped give a "feel" for life back in the 1920's that no black and white photos ever could.
A well done film that's a good bit of entertainment.
