While it may have a thinly veiled "global-warming-doomsayer" agenda it is still interesting and Jaden Smiths performance is once again wonderful.
Many people are confused by the beginning. At one point it was pointed out that the spheres may be collecting species much like Noah with his Ark, perhaps that sphere collected this man too and they reused his body years later?
My only complaint is that naming it The Day the Earth Stood Still immediately raises comparisons to a much beloved classic. It doesn't stand up to that classic in my opinion and worse yet, the famous "Klaatu barada nikto" phrase is not in the movie. That would have brought warm thoughts to those familiar with the old movie.
While watching Appaloosa I found myself laughing much more than I had anticipated from a western. The dialogue between Viggo Mortensen and Ed Harris was smooth and witty. The story line/character development between Viggo, Ed and Renee Zellweger was rather predictable to me but still entirely entertaining. Jeremy Irons was fantastic in his role of a despicable gentlemen outlaw. I found myself feeling emotionally connected to the character Ed Harris was playing before the end of the movie. The story is great if not a little simple. The pace moves the movie along slowly but steadily, the action is done in quick bursts with the focus more on the drama than then gun play. I highly recommend this movie and will likely see it again.
I saw a touring production of this a while back and loved it, the film captured the live show very well. Meryl Streep was great, she seemed to be having a lot of fun with the character. While Pierce Brosnan can look cool just standing there he really cannot sing, though he was still great. All the parts were cast well, Amanda Seyfried (Sophie) was wonderful, Julie Walters (Rosie) was a blast and Christine Baranski (Tanya) was incredible as always. The story is simple but heartwarming. Some of the jokes can get a bit heavy on the sexual side, sometimes bordering on crude so younger audiences may be cautioned. However, all ages can enjoy the music of the film.
