I am a huge fan of the Saw franchise. So naturally, a friend and I HAD to go see it on opening night! To watch the final chapter of this epic story unfold. And quite frankly the only thing that really had me interested was the ending.
I will not give anything away to anyone who has not seen this film. And I am not going to say to go see it/do not go see it. But I, myself, feel that filming it in 3D didn't really serve a purpose for this particular franchise. Many of the deaths weren't even plot pieces. It was just an excuse to have traps/gore(and lots of it) and extra special 3D effects.
Regardless, it was mildly entertaining and I felt the ending was actually satisfying. It really brought everything full circle and gave it a proper last hor-rah in that aspect. But the rest of the film was just an excuse to have another movie in 3D. It truly left something to be desired.
It also made me thankful that this will be the last film and its franchise will be closing, because surely if another film is made after this it would be really, at this point, beating a dead horse. They knew they needed to be finished before it overstayed its welcome in the horror genre and ended it on a good note. But it should never been lumped into the 3D extravaganza party like many of its predicessors have. The whole 3D thing just took alot of the seriousness out of it and that is one the elements that made this franchise so great. So yes, I saw it. I liked it. But I was hoping to love it. And that just isn't going to happen.
I unfortunately have to say that I wasn't too terribly impressed with this movie! Especially after the first remake Rob did was great. Violence was turned up to 11, but that was about it. The whole white horse concept was a bit overdrawn and just really brought the movie down a bit. There were a few interesting high points and was in general entertaining to watch. But don't expect to be chilled out of your seat.
