The Dark Knight sets a new standard for comic book movies. Filled with the grit of Sin City, special effects on par with Iron Man, and acting surpassing all past efforts, the Dark Knight may be too grim for some, but for fans of the violent and dangerous Batman of the late 70s, 80s and 90s, the Dark Knight satisfies and even surpasses its source material. Heath Ledger gives an iconic performance as the definitive Joker, causing chaos and spreading dark humor throughout Gotham. Bale again proves himself as the best Batman. The supporting cast is fantastic, with Gary Oldman becoming even more of a standout as the idealistic Jim Gordon, Morgan Freeman bringing his unique sense of charm and humor to Lucius Fox, Maggie Gyllenhaal gives a great and complex performance as Rachel Dawes, and Michael Caine steals every scene he's in as Alfred. As for Aaron Eckhart... well, you too will Believe in Harvey Dent. And you can believe the hype surrounding this movie: it's the best movie of the summer, and may turn out to be the most engaging blockbuster of the year.
