Lots of hype, raves, rants and complaints. Story line taking some hits, but while story is nothing new (peaceful jungle people being forced from their land by evil "white men") it is handled very well and hooks you.
Effects are awesome and though the movie is long, I wouldn't cut a thing. Enjoyed every minute of it.
To be fair, my wife looked at her watch more than once...
Evil child preys upon unsuspecting family...yea, we've seen this before. The Orphan is an "ok" send up for this genre and if you're pressed at the multiplex for a title, this is a solid AVERAGE film. Some very good performances from the actors (kids especially) but if you really want to see this type of film done right, check out McCauly Culkin in The Good Son or Patty McCormick in the 1950's The Bad Seed.
