I expected to dislike it, but it was really cute. It showed how silly our differences can be & how lives can be destroyed in fighting about them. The music was sometimes goofy, but I think Elton John worked old stuff & new stuff together. The Benny & the Jets song, when it came, was surprisingly un-campy.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

This story was uplifting and special in a different way. Rather than showing us that he completely overcame the stutter, it demonstrated that he had to continue to work at it. He wasn't perfect. An American director/screenwriter would have to tie it up w/ a revision of history.
Yes, I recommend this movie.

Interesting take on the battle to be the best villain. although pretty obvious what will happen, it's creative with how it gets there. The minions are funny & there are definitely pieces that a child will not get, i.e. "formerly Lehman Brothers" at the Bank of Evil.
There is some grittiness in this movie - implications of rats dying, a cat attacking a mouse and a princess potentially being hurt by rats. But it's realistic in that it shows kids that life is sometimes scary & unforgiving, especially for people who make bad choices. Despereaux's braveness in the face of daunting circumstances is a good picture to paint for children. Plus, the movie has silliness, cuteness, great animation and creativity.
Excellent edition of the Batman franchise. Christian Bale is the best Batman so far - with his polish & aloofness, he strikes the right balance. The struggle of being good while fighting evil is constantly there. Ledger is perfect as the Joker - deeply disturbing with none of the farce of Nicholson's Joker.
