I'm a superhero nut, but Cap America has never been one of the ones I followed. However, this movie got me interested in the back story, which they followed quite well, up to a point. The movie was very entertaining, and contained a great performance by Chris Evans. Chris is prone to playing characters who are cocksure, with a swagger that almost overshadows his character. Here he handles the humility and respect that Cap should exude with ease. Very enjoyable!
I have to admit I haven't been exposed to hardly any of the hype surrounding Avatar (and this was by choice), so I wasn't sure what to expect. My wife and I were both extremely surprised. Obviously the spectacle that are the special effects will blow you away. James Cameron has taken us one step closer to erasing the line between CGI and real life. The part that surprised us was the story line and acting quality. Although the story was a bit predictable, it pulled you into the world and made you care for the characters, which is the trademark of a good movie. Acting quality was quite good. Each character held their own. Over all, it was a fantastic experience. We'd go again right now if we could find a babysitter!
I went into this movie with a mix of hope and trepidation. I'd heard so many good things about it, I figured it couldn't be that bad. But I also hated the thought of someone restarting a franchise I'd loved for so many years. JJ Abrams has done so many other great shows, and he doesn't dissapoint here. The special effects, the acting, the character arc...all excellent. The movie does a wonderful job of setting the stage by investing the watcher in the characters early...and then it doesn't let up. Action, suspense, drama...all there. I was quite impressed.
