I share others' comments about how this movie feels like Part I, because it probably is. While the setting was realistic, I'm not really a Russell Crowe fan; I went because I'm a Robin Hood fan :). Part II will be better, I'm sure, now that Part I has given us all the background and some of the history. More of Little John, Will Scarlett and Alan A'Dale, please!
While not sticking perfectly to the book, this is still an exciting introduction for kids who might never have otherwise learned anything about mythology. I can't wait to see what they do with the remaining four books. I would leave kids who are 7 and under at home, unless they're very adventurous.
A very enjoyable, action-packed film. Downey is excellent, as always, and Jude Law, who had not impressed me previously, seems up to the challenge. Not a particularly deep plot, but the good guys win and the bad guys lose and, after all, isn't that reassuring?
Let me start by saying the special effects were terrific and the movie was worth the price; I love disaster movies and love John Cusack! However - and without giving too much of the plot away - some of the leads who died were merely (worn out) plot driven. It would have made a more interesting movie to see less predictable outcomes chosen. All in all, though, it was well worth the price.
Loud, nonsensical (in parts), and extremely fast paced - I don't know a better definition for a summer film. However, do NOT take young children! I had a 4-5 year old in front of me and parts terrified him.
