My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Since the reviews are so mixed, I'll reveal that we are middle aged women in case it's a gender, generational thing... We found it hilarious from beginning to end. It raised some very interesting questions related to the ability to imagine "what isn't". Compassion, empathy, even self-awareness seem to be predicated on being able to trust something other than what other people say and to sense what is beyond it. Ricky Gervais is wonderful. Jennifer Garner's character, while superficial in so many ways, is interesting as she tries to figure out why she loves being with a man that doesn't have the right genetic material for her future kids.
